Prepress Operator

Remote
Full Time
Mid Level
LearnTastic is looking for an experienced Prepress Operator to join our production workflow remotely.
You will work closely with our account managers and in-house prepress team to keep moving efficiently, maintain print quality, and meet production deadlines.
This is a hands-on production role for someone with commercial printing experience who understands print specifications, colour management, imposition, and prepress workflows. We will train you on our specific templates, equipment, and processes, but you should already be confident in managing prepress independently.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review incoming files against tickets, checking trim size, bleed, margins, image resolution, fonts, colour specifications, page count, page order, overprint, trapping, rich black, and missing assets.
  • Use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and Enfocus PitStop to resolve prepress issues.
  • Coordinate with account managers when corrections require input.
  • Manage PDF proofs, generate and send proofs for approval, implement requested changes, and issue revised proofs until approval is received.
  • Prepare press-ready layouts based on press specifications and paper sizes, including step-and-repeat, work-and-turn, sheetwise, booklet signatures, creep adjustments, registration marks, and colour bars.
  • Create new layouts when an existing template does not accommodate dimensions or specifications.
  • Process approved files through Kodak Prinergy and, where required, Fujifilm XMF, ensuring files are ready for the in-house team.
  • Manage production priorities in coordination with account managers, balancing deadlines, approvals, and production requirements.
  • Communicate proactively, keep account managers informed of file issues, pending approvals, and potential delays, using email, chat, and phone as needed.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
  • At least 3 years of hands-on prepress experience with a commercial offset printing company, either sheetfed or web.
  • Proven experience imposing print, and preparing files for production.
  • Daily, practical experience with professional prepress workflows and imposition software. Kodak Prinergy and Preps are preferred; experience with Fujifilm XMF, Screen Trueflow, Heidelberg Prinect, or Agfa Apogee is also relevant.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro on a Mac.
  • Experience with Enfocus PitStop for preflight, PDF inspection, and file correction.
  • A solid understanding of commercial print production, including colour separations, CMYK and spot colours, Pantone specifications, overprint, trapping, bleeds, and print marks.
  • Good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Strong attention to detail, sound production judgment, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently.
  • Reliable internet with speeds of at least 25 Mbps, a backup internet connection, backup power, and a quiet, suitable workspace.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
